Hello there ....

Hi, I’m Dom.

I’ve spent over 20 years working in the IT industry across a wide range of roles and sectors in the UK. During that time, I’ve worked with data, systems, websites, platforms, and the everyday technical problems that businesses actually face.

I’ve seen how technology evolves, how it breaks, and how often it becomes overcomplicated when it doesn’t need to be.

At my core, I’m a problem solver.

If a process is slow, fragile, manual, or unreliable — I want to understand it and improve it.

What I Do

I currently work as a Senior Analyst Developer, specialising in SQL Server, ETL development, and business intelligence.

Over the years, I’ve worked across utilities, energy, retail, finance, insurance, education, and professional services. My roles have consistently involved:

Rebuilding failing stored procedures

Designing data warehouses (star & snowflake schema)

Developing SSIS ETL solutions

Optimising SQL performance

Automating manual finance and reporting processes

Delivering SSRS and BI reporting

Leading projects end-to-end

Many of the projects I’ve delivered have started as slow, error-prone processes and ended as automated, reliable systems that teams can trust.

Reducing multi-day manual tasks down to minutes.
Improving query performance under pressure.
Restoring confidence in business-critical reporting.

That’s the type of work I enjoy.

How I Work

I take ownership.

From requirement gathering and stakeholder meetings, through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support — I prefer to see projects through properly rather than just contributing small pieces.

Accuracy, reliability, performance, and clarity matter to me.

Tools change. Platforms evolve. But structured thinking, clean data design, and calm problem-solving don’t go out of date.

Why This Website Exists

I put this website together primarily for myself, but also for anyone else who might find it useful.

I didn’t want to lock it into a single topic or niche. This is a space where I share experience, ideas, projects, and practical knowledge across IT, technology, long-term thinking, and the things I genuinely enjoy working on.

Think of it as a home for everything I’ve learned — and continue to learn.

It’s also a more complete reflection of my work than a traditional CV or LinkedIn profile. If I ever move roles or collaborate on something new, I’d rather someone explore how I think and what I’ve built than read a condensed bullet list.

Beyond the Job Title

I’m approachable, down to earth, and always happy to talk things through.

If you’ve got a question, a technical issue, or just want a second opinion on something you’re working on, feel free to drop me a message. If I can help, I will.

A Father to 2 little monkeys

I just thought I would drop this section on articles, I guess on parenthood? notes, thoughts stories for me and I guess others new and current parents if any of this helps at all? hopefully it does. I tend to think a lot, that's just me really.
